Bedroom Armoires
Whether large or small, ornate or casual, bedroom armoires provide valuable storage while adding distinctive beauty to a room.
Choosing the right bedroom armoire is the challenge. Begin by evaluating the amount of space you have for a bedroom armoire and be clear as to how you want to use it. Features Bedroom armoires can include:
If You Have a Large Bedroom Large bedroom armoires often have adjustable levelers for the cabinet to sit properly on an uneven floor. Many have bombe styling – baroque-style chests with convex sides – two-tone finishes, beveled mirrors on the front, decorative crowns and/or carved accents.
If You Have a Small Bedroom Smaller bedroom armoires (often 2 feet shorter and 8 inches shallower than a large bedroom armoire) require less space in a bedroom while still providing plenty of storage. Many also have the same important practical features as the larger bedroom armoires: an adjustable shelf, hinged doors and easy-glide drawers.
If It’s For a Child or Teen’s Bedroom Bedroom armoires suitable for a child’s or teen’s room usually have a basic cabinet design and painted finish and sit flush on the floor. Look for smooth-running drawer glides with safety drawer stops, and lift-out drawers for easy cleaning. Rather than rich, ornate wood finishes, look for bedroom armoires with a contemporary oak styling or a distressed finishes. Metal handles and country pine styles often appeal to the younger set.
For painted styles, look for durable coatings to brighten a room and for reinforced drawer corners to provide strength and durability. Rounded corners will protect a child from needless bumps and bruises. Bedroom armoires are also made to avoid tipping over. Some bedroom armoires feature shelves to store a child's game controllers, multimedia items or collectibles. These bedroom armoires add a softness to a child’s bedroom and provide handy storage for the busy parent who needs clothing, bed linens and other child necessities neatly organized and close at hand.
